Our first house was fr...TRUST me, I feel your pain. Our first house was from about 1910, with wallpaper on plaster. Yes.... Good times. We had to use a special paintable wallpaper to patch together the crumbling plaster (because, um, we couldn't afford to replaster or drywall everything!) Oh, and one bedroom had wallpaper with a wall of MIRRORS and a wall with CARPET. I kid you not. Removing carpeting and 40 year old mirrors was a LOT of fun.
