to find something interesting to blog, I went to blogthings.com and took a random quiz. However, it was apparently completely inaccurate, as it claimed that I would best be described in the dog world as a chihuahua puppy.
Um... NOT.
So, without further adieu, and no preparation on his part, I am turning this post over to...
(drum roll please...)
Dustin! He often says he needs a blog. Let's see what he can do.
Hang on, I have to go make his day and tell him he can blog on my laptop.
Hi Mom, nah just kidding. Hello, I'm Dustin Jones, I'm in the 7th grade and I need a blog. Okay, maybe I don't NEED one but it would be nice to have. Then I could share with the world how crazy and hectic my life is. Let me give you the details.
I compete in the FIRST Lego League. FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology) is a company the holds robotics competitions. Lego League is one of the divisions of FIRST. Last year my team and I did very good. We made it all the way to the world competition. Boy, with 10 kids and 8 adults walking the streets of Atlanta Georgia, sometimes we looked like an angry mob. We placed 68th out of 82 but the experience was just too cool.
I competed in Middle School Soccer. That was a blast! We probably lost more won but man, we didn't lose to Livermore. For all those of you that haven't lived in the tiny town of Jay Me, Livermore Falls is our schools arch rival. The first game we played them, we tied 2-2 but we came through and beat them 3-2 at our field. Yup, soccer was fun.
I'm taking High School algebra 1 in 7th grade. Now most kids take algebra 1 in ninth grade, but I've been in my school's Gifted and Talented (GT) Mathematics Program since the third grade. In sixth grade I would practically fall asleep during math class because I already knew everything that they were teaching. If I stay on the course my teacher, Mr. Taylor, has me on right now I'll be taking college calculus my senior year.
Here's some more random stuff about me. I have 3, not 1, not 2, but 3 younger brothers who like to annoy the begeebers out of me. I love to build, Lego's, K'Nex, Lego's, Erector Sets, Lego's, did I mention Lego's, I Love Lego's. They're the best thing ever (except indoor plumbing). I've got the best friends a kid could ever have (4 of which were on my Lego League team last year). With all this stuff, I should write a book. Oh! I HATE writing!!!!!!!!!!!!
With all the things I've got going on I need a blog. Don't you agree?

Welcome to my Party!!
I'm a little nervous, I'm not exactly a "party animal"! But every now and then I need to step out of my comfort zone and stretch myself just a tad!

This is where I sit and spend time talking to you all, instead of keeping a clean house. I'm a SAHM, but until my 2 yo is in school I figure I have a good enough excuse! ;-)

I like to take pictures, I'm not great at it, but I scrapbook them as well. Scrapbooking changed how I take my puictures, blogging has changed how I live my life. For example, when I do things like go to Cumby's to get this:

he's eleven, and just said he didn't want to smile 'cuz he's mad at his brother. I asked him if he still loved his mother, and this is what we got! He's laying in his bed, a loft bed with a desk that my husband made out of PVC pipe and painted black. It's pretty cool!

he's seven, and always so happy to perform! Seven is a good age. I like it, he doesn't. He might if he didn't have two older brothers who can "do everything"! He likes to pose for the camera, but I refuse to post on the internet the picture he wanted me to take... his behind! Pants on, of course, just being silly.

he's the 2 yo, and likes to play shy! He was planned, but only after much thought and prayer. An awful pregnancy resulted in a child like no other, he radiates love and happiness and it bounces back from everyone around him. I worry he will end up spoiled, but we just can't help ourselves!

Cute, huh? I think so. I recently told him we don't spend enough time together, between church responsibilities, friend needs, children, the fire department, and the extended family we never see anymore. He promised me we would spend all kinds of time together in the eternities. Sweet.

Well, here at Between You Me and the Fencepost we tend to be awfully busy, but every now and then we run out of excuses to avoid doing the laundry! Boy do we have laundry, 4 boys and a husband with a pretty messy job outside (think layers in the winter) create a TON of laundry:

Let's check in on the boys, they're so cute, they don't even know they are at a party!
Here is child one:

and child two:
and child three:
he's seven, and always so happy to perform! Seven is a good age. I like it, he doesn't. He might if he didn't have two older brothers who can "do everything"! He likes to pose for the camera, but I refuse to post on the internet the picture he wanted me to take... his behind! Pants on, of course, just being silly.
Please excuse the mess, like I said, I avoid cleaning! No, that is not a Christmas decoration on my wall in March. Oh, ok, it is, sue me!
and child four:
he's the 2 yo, and likes to play shy! He was planned, but only after much thought and prayer. An awful pregnancy resulted in a child like no other, he radiates love and happiness and it bounces back from everyone around him. I worry he will end up spoiled, but we just can't help ourselves!
He's wearing a Fire Dept T-Shirt. The love of my life is on our town's volunteer department, and he and his fellow firefighters are idolized by my children. Usually they merit the adoration!
The couch he's on was a hand-me-down. Ok, ALL our living room furniture is second hand, from family. The couch I would have refused, it really is UGLY. But, after that last pregnancy I developed a severe hatred of our other couch due to the extensive amount of time I spent on it. And this one is a sleeper sofa, and little did we know we would be having angels sleep on it on a regular basis.
The angels? Right, they are brother and sister to another little girl, who has cancer. They are my very dear friend Melissa's children, and have spent A LOT of nights asleep on that couch! We try not to write too much about them, just when they really are here a lot. Cancer is a very sad topic, but we do address it every now and then (see Post #50 in the archives), as it is prevalent in our lives.
Oh, and of course, the Love of My Life, husband of 12+ years, and father of all my children (that always floors them at school!!):
Cute, huh? I think so. I recently told him we don't spend enough time together, between church responsibilities, friend needs, children, the fire department, and the extended family we never see anymore. He promised me we would spend all kinds of time together in the eternities. Sweet.
Child four is the only one not in need of a haircut. I gave him one a few days ago, I haven't got to the rest, including Love of My Life!
the view from my dining room.
We live up North, and are ready to be done with the snow! Bring on the flooding spring!
Well, I'm glad you stopped by, and look forward to maybe seeing you again soon! Also, I'd love to check out your blog if you have one!
Stay warm! Unless you live in Texas, and then I guess it's stay cool?

OH YEAH!!! ME!!! Silly goose that I am!
Here I am at a family cookout with the Love of My Life:
Ok, time to go meet all of you! Thanks again for stopping by, and drive safe!
Blogger was BROKEN!!!
It had me stressed right out. I mean, I tried to post Josiah's comment (very funny, by the way), and I got an error. I tried to get to my dashboard and report the error, receiving ANOTHER error. I tried to go to blogger's site to report both errors, terrified I'd been hit by a SPLOGGER, only to receive a THIRD error!!
*Don't laugh, just ask Lindsay*
*shudder*
But then I tried to read other blogger blogs that are normally just fine, and THEY weren't working either, I got the THIRD error again, and, well, that was only slightly settling.
I was going to blog the story of our cat, but frankly, I think I need to lie down. That hour of my life may have taken off five years!

The things you learn online...
So, I was checking out some lady from California's blog, and she posted information I will now share with you. It's called, Google Reader. www.google.com/reader
What you do, is you sign in with your email and a password, and then on the left is a green tab that says "add subscription". You click on it, and one at a time you cut and paste the URLs of blogs you like. You list the blogs you like to read, and then in one screen, you can check whether or not they have ALL been updated. The blogs will show a number beside them of the posts that it thinks you haven't read, though I marked them all read first off, because I had read them. But today, ONE person had a new post. So I read the 1. Without having to check the 10 or so I read. You also see a snippet of the post on a screen, and if you click on the blog's title above, you can actually go to the blog, so you can read the comments and make one if you want. 'Cuz bloggers LIVE and BREATHE for comments!
If this is the only blog you read, I am sorry to have bored you. But Kim, THIS POST IS FOR YOU!!!

Trying a new look...
Not sure I like it. What do you think?
*edited again to add*
Now we are talking. But my dashboard won't show up. Making it a pain to write a new post. I had to use Nicki's blog to get to my own dashboard. It's pretty, but not functional. With another foot of snow coming my way, I'll keep it for now!!
*edited to add*
Ok, I wasn't even looking at the computer when I decided I didn't like the template. I might need a life!
*edited one more time*
Ok, I put the dashboard link in my Check 'em Out section and it WORKED!! I OFFICIALLY LOVE my new look! I am no longer looking for opinions! Thank you anyway, though...

I REALLY WANT TO POST A VIDEO!!!!!!!
So, Zachary was being adorable last night. He got up to sit at the supper table and started singing Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes. Later in the evening he added Once There Was a Snowman and The Wise Man Built His House Upon the Rock. All three songs are in our Primary Songbook, and they sing them in nursery. Nursery is the part of church he spends half of his time, after our family has sat through Sacrament meeting and listened to the speakers together. They have apparently been singing these songs in there, and after Brian and Michael, I had completely forgotten what a joy it is to listen to a small child sing. Brian screamed if anyone sang anything besides the ABC song (including Twinkle twinkle and Baa Baa Black Sheep which have the same tune) and Michael simply ignored singing until he was about 6, and then we learned he has no rhythym. I mean none. Nada. Ixnay on the ythymray. Can't hold a beat to save his life. Takes after his Dad, who if you have ever seen him dance, you know the Robot is his best thing. But, Zachary's got it. Rhythym, interest, and even a few two-year-old dance moves. It's very encouraging. Now I want my VCR hooked up so I can look back at how adorable Dustin was singing at this age! He knew all the words, having heard them over and over! I need to sing more to Z, so he can catch up!

Lesson in Blogging
OK, sometimes when composing a post, I put certain little touches, like centering my Merry Christmas, that don't work out. Blogger likes to change the spacing when you hit the publish button. I ALWAYS have to go back and delete blank spaces that want to make my post even longer than it is!
Also, there's a handy little thing at the end of each post called the "comments". You may have clicked on this, if so, you get to read all the comments other people make, which are limited to about three people. If you want to make a comment, it asks you to create an account. Creating an account is actually quite easy, you just come up with a user name (usually your email address) and a password. You don't receive bulk crap email for this.
However, signing up is not required. You can leave a post anonymously, and then just type your name at the end of it. Though if you want to say something nasty not nice you don't have to leave your name either, as the person I have since labeled unhappy anonymous did.
If you know who unhappy anonymous is, please tell them I posted a reply to their complaint.
Lastly, if you go back to the page to see your comment all pretty like and don't see it, don't despair. That only happens because I have it set to approve comments before they show up. This is the Internet, and sadly there are times when I go days without looking at my blog, I don't want anyone being particularly rude and others (including myself) being offended.
It's a happy place here in my blog world, won't you join me, and speak whatever's on your mind when you visit? Heaven knows I sure will!!

Blogging
Can I just say that I. LOVE. BLOGS!!
What a fantastic way to stay in touch. Just today, I was minding my own business reading Leah Danala's blog (ok, that might be minding her business...) when I decided to check the comments. She hasn't posted lately, might be too busy with her husband newly in the bishopric and everything, but I noticed TEN comments on one post, and my interest was peaked. Then, a comment was by an Ashleigh. I only know one Ashleigh who spells her name that way, and she's maried to a mutual friend of Jimmy and Bill, Ansen, and low and behold, a little click, and I am looking at pictures from Utah of our dear friend Ansen! Poor boy, couldn't help himself, he fell in love with (apparently a very darling) young lady from out there, and so as to not uproot her from her dear family, he stayed. We miss him terribly! Especially since the last time he was here we didn't even manage to catch a few minutes at church!
Enter blog-dom. Photos of him and his new family at a shooting range (looking only slightly deranged!!), roller-skating, even carving NY Yankee pumpkins. We forgive him of that, having a Yankee fan, Brian, and occasionally a pseudo-Yankee fan, Bill (he's just faking though).

Information
I changed a setting on the blog. It now lets me moderate comments, which means they are emailed to me, and after I read them I get to click whether or not I want them to show. It just means I don't have to look back and see if someone commented on an old post, but your comments won't show right away. It's great to know who's reading though, I have a counter but haven't looked to see if I can tell WHO has peeked. Anyway, a little blog info for you all.

Oops!
Those of you who have peeked in, may have wanted to see what blogs I like. With the handy dandy link, it's easy to do that. But, if you did it yesterday, you may be wondering why I would spend exorbitant amounts of time on a website with clothes for business women. Well, I don't. But I DO spend WAY too much time that I should spend cleaning a bit of time on the website thepioneerwoman.com. Yeah, I forgot the the. But it's fixed now, and the woman takes some gorgeous photos. Check it out, now that you actually can!
